5th year more and more activities!!!!

Complete with the correct tense or form......

AN INNOCENT MAN
Last night, Joe Bloggs (arrest) ......................... on suspicion of robbery. The police had no proof that he (commit) ......................... the crime and Joe denied charges (say)................................. he had a good alibi. When he was put on trial, the police (call) ......................... several witnesses to the stand but Joe's lawyer defended his client well and tried (prove) ..................... that Joe (not do) .................... anything illegal. However, the jury (find) ................ Joe guilty and he (sentence) ...................... to six months in prison. As Joe (never/commit) ................... a crime before this was a very heavy punishment. Most people (convince)....................... of Joe's innocence and his lawyer appealed against the verdict. A new trial took place and Joe was finally acquitted. He said after the trial: 'If I had gone to prison, they would have punished an innocent man.'

One summer afternoon in New York in 1875, while his wife (prepare)............... dinner, Mr Levi Gamin left his house (buy).............. some tobacco. He never returned. Sixty years later in 1935, the New York Times printed a story about a man 'dressed in strange old-fashioned clothes'who (step)................ in front of a car while crossing Times Square. The dead man (carry)................... no identification and there was nothing in his pocket except some bank notes from the year 1875. The police had no idea who the man was or why he (wear)................. such strange clothes, until a police officer decided (check).................... the missing persons file for 1875. In the file was a description of the dead man exactly. It was then that the question began.
Why had Mr Gamin disappeared in 1875? Where (be)........................... he ...................... for the past 60 years and why (not change)................. his appearance ..................?

Late last night Rebecca Richards, an 18-year-old student, (drive)................. in thick fog along a road when she suddenly (lose)................... control and her car fell over a 150m cliff. She dialled 999 (the emergency number), but she was so confused that she had to make several calls before she could finally make the ambulance people (understand).............. her. While she was waiting for help to come, she could see that the sea (come)........... closer every moment. She lay there (feel).............. terrified, watching and waiting. Suddenly, she heard the noise of a helicopter in the sky above.
The helicopter took half an hour (see)................... exactly where Rebecca was, but in the end it managed (reach).................... her. By the time the helicopter took off, the waves were just one metre away. Eventually,she got to the nearest hospitall where she (recover) ................ now. 'It was so lucky that I had my mobile phone with me,' she said to journalists, 'because if I hadn't been able to phone for help, I would definitely have died!'
